Mechanical properties of the surface soil in the terrestrial Arctic are affected by the temperature and degree of freezing of the upper sediments. A warmer climate in the Arctic will lead to heat flux into the sediments and corresponding thawing will change their mechanical properties. A possible way of monitoring heat flux into the terrestrial Arctic may be to monitor how mechanical properties change over time by studying guide waved modes in the framework of time lapse seismic experiments.
